Ba Ria-Vung Tau, a province located in Vietnam’s Southeast region, has agreed in principle to permit Ho Tram Project Company to build a small airport to be used exclusively for its fully integrated Ho Tram Resort Casino, according to VN Express International.

According to the report, the proposed airport would cover about 200 hectares (494 acres) in the Dat Do District under the build-operate-transfer model. The airport would be used, in the short term, to transport tourists to and from Ho Tram Strip from other domestic airports. Expansion of the airport to accommodate tourism and economic development is something the investor, along with the provincial government, will consider in the long-term if possible. A memorandum of understanding (MOU) has already been signed by Ho Tram Project Company with local budget carrier VietJet Air for future cooperation opportunities, according to Ho Tram Strip’s executive chairman Michael Kelly, as reported by the news agency.

At the present time, there are two small airports on the province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau; they serve tourism on Con Dao Island, as well as oil exploration and production operations in Vung Tau.

Ho Tram Resort Casino is located on the Ho Tram Strip, which is in phase one of development, about 75 miles (120km) from Ho Chi Minh City. It is the only fully integrated resort and casino in Southeast Asia located on a beach. The upscale beach resort on the South China Sea opened in 2013 and in addition to the casino currently includes a 541-room, five-star hotel, restaurants, meeting and convention space, luxury retail shops, and three swimming pools.

Upon completion of the second tower at The Grand, there will be a total of 1,100 rooms at the integrated resort, as well as entertainment amenities. In addition, by 2020, the project, which is the biggest ever Vietnamese tourist development, is expected to add 9,000 luxury rooms, 2,000 electronic gaming machines, 180 gaming tables, a golf course and other recreational facilities, as reported by the news agency.

Ho Tram Project Company is a subsidiary of Asian Coast Development (Canada) Ltd.
